The "Meanders of Modernism" walk is a project of a new architectural route, cross-border both in terms of the area and the diverse, dynamically changing trends of functionalism occurring in this small part of Gdynia.
Part of Gdynia City Center between Kościuszko Square, Świętojańska Street, Kaszubski Square, Portowa Street and St. Peter's Street and the seashore, at the junction of the city and the port, is a space of a rich, nearly 100-year-old social, urban and architectural history of Gdynia. The former fishermen's houses are adjacent to a functionalist, Bauhaus-style fishing colony. Early functionalism meets traditional tenement houses here, there are also the first, restrained in form, multi-story frontage tenement houses, as well as more avant-garde corner tenement houses with expressive shapes. This architectural mosaic is complemented by investments from the post-war years, including public office buildings, multi-apartment buildings, as well as educational, tourist and gastronomic buildings.
